Research Workgroup
Digital Pathology and Pathomics
Mission:
The purpose of this working group is to gather interested team members from all sites to actively participate in the Digital Pathology and Pathomics Working Group. The goal is to share common expertise and resources in a meaningful way to answer scientific questions.

Focus:
In research Digital Pathology is the use of high-resolution scanners to convert glass slides of tissue samples into digital images that can be viewed, analyzed, and stored on computers. Pathomics is the extraction and analysis of quantitative data from these images, such as the number, shape, size, and spatial distribution of cells, nuclei, and other histologic features. Pathomics can help characterize the phenotypic diversity and heterogeneity of cancer and its microenvironment, and correlate them with clinical, genomic, and treatment data. Pathomics is an emerging field that leverages machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision to discover novel patterns and biomarkers in digital pathology images.
